Hi Jeff,I am in the middle of restoring a 1960 "square" steering wheel, and have reached good results so far with epoxy resin. I mix the expoxy (fast curing, in 15 minutes it is dry enough to sand) with a filler to make it thicker. To make the resin thicker (and preventing thus the mixture from dripping out off the cracks in my steering wheel) I mix it with " micro-balloons" . Micro-balloons are nothing more or less then " the dust from glassfibre" , you can buy it from any good model airplane shop. It is used in modelairplanes as a very leightweight bondo, when mixed with epoxy glue.
The epoxy-microballoons mixture will get rock hard on the surface, but inside it will remain a little flexible. Exactly what I want, that way the cracks won't come back in the steering wheel.
After careful sanding the complete steering wheel, I use a plastic primer and then the steering wheel is ready for re-painting in the correct color.
Good luck, Robert----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeff Cantor" <jcantor791@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Does anyone have any suggestions for something to use to fill the cracks that inevitably form in our older plastic wheels? I have a spare for my '56 that we are attempting to use for a theater set but it has numerous cracks in the hub that aren't appropriate for a "new" car. Thanks, Jeff '56 Sedan Trenton, NJ ----------------- http://www.imperialclub.com -----------------This message was sent to you by the Imperial Mailing List.
