You comments reconfirm what I remember hearing. Furthermore, it seems more practical to just be sure to do the correct prep work at repaint time, rather than fret over the various products used in the garage.

I may also look into the Simix product mentioned later by Greg. My car is a driver and could surely use the protection. It also has no clear coat - this stuff may work well.

As a professional painter in the dutch film/tv business and a car buff( no pun intended) all I can say is,especially for car paint, silicone is hell. However realize that every garage and alot of othe places use the stuff. In other words contamination is a fact of life, therefore a proprietary silicone remover should always be used prior to sanding AND before painting. Nonetheless I recently used a polymer wax on my 65 crown because normal carnuba based waxes ( incl. zymol) have very little strength/durability and I use my car daily.
