I would echo the comment regarding the air cleaner cover seal. I
bought a new element and installed it and the car would not idle at all.
It would keep running if I held the accelerator pedal down to keep it at a fast
idle. I returned the air cleaner element and got another of a different
brand and it did the same thing. I finally put about an 1/8" rubber spacer
between the cover and the cover gasket and it worked fine. Apparently this
gasket takes a set after a number of years and these cars need a tight air
cleaner seal. Just having the large clamp around the entire periphery is
not enough.
