If they were built with factory air, they had clutched fans when new.
Someone else posted that these fans were introduced in 1957. The
earliest factory A/C Imperials I have are 1960 models, and they both
came with clutched fans.

Fan clutches with six bladed fans were used on all factory A/C
equipped
Imperials from 1960 on, and possibly before that.
Really? I could swear that neither my '62 Crown, nor my '63 Custom
had clutched fans, and both had the factory-type A/C.
weird.
