I live in Oregon and I run the 190 to 195 Degree therostat al the time   I make sure the engine is tuned and timed right.  Runs better and get better milage.  Just seems to like the heat up to a point.  Racing engines do not need a 195.  I like the 180 for racing..

Maybe necessary when you use the car in extreme cold conditions (certain
parts of Canada maybe?)

Rob, the 195 thermostat is intended for later model cars with small blocks, but will fit our engines as well.
