Re: IML: HELP

Get your car out of that "shop" asap.

If they did a rebuild, why didnt they replace the defective governor part in the first place, and why only give this information months after the alledged "rebuild"? And a rebuilt transmission shouldnt leak. Any respectable shop would also be able to find and install that cable themselves.

I work in a Mopar shop myself, and this kind of "service" is really below any standards. The first thing our mechanic does on a tranny is to check its current condition, and inform the customer of the problems that are diagnosed with the 727 still in the car. At that point, a problem with the governor shows already most of the times, the line pressure readings will tell this most of the times. Even if for some reason it is not immediately apparent, after dismantling the transmission, all parts should be checked carefully and both problems you mention would show at that time already.

And after typing this, yes I think its a good idea to sue them as well if they overcharged you. Also, make sure that they didnt do any joyriding with the car, check the odo!!

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the only rebuild the "transmission shop" did was their bank account with your money!

I believe that most transmission shops are simply money machines that take advantage of folks who do not know mechanical stuff.

The '65 transmission rebuild should have been cheap, quick and easy and any shop that can't replace a shifter cable is quite suspect.

Hello All,

It has been a while since I have updated the gang regarding my 65 project but the story has come to a screeching halt.  This is why I run back to you.  In a short story I have been fixing on my 65 Imperial and came upon a tranny rebuild, I took it to a local shop here in Wisconsin and they told me they completed the rebuild but my shifter cable was no good which meant that I could not start the car to get it out of their shop (they work on strictly transmissions).   This meant that I was not sure if the rebuild was a success or not.  After 4-6 months I purchased the correct cable and had it installed this past week and found out that there was other issues going on.  First, the repairman told me something about the governor was in need of service (this information was given via phone I have yet to pick up the car) and I had plenty of leaks.  I feel pretty comfortable with the place that put the cable in but never was sold on the original place that allegedly did the rebuild.  I guess I am asking what direction to I go in?  Do I call it quits with the rebuild place and take it elsewhere (as well as file a claim)?  Or allow them to tinker with the car once again?  Hence the subject box above.
