Re: IML: 1952 Air Conditioner

It would seem possible. The cooling is caused by the pressure of the gas, and not electricity. The blowers and compressor clutch would have to be adapted to run on 6 volts. Also, modern systems employ an electrical pressure switch that would need attention. I think the most work would be to create the apparatus required to mount the compressor, etc. in the engine compartment.

If your handy with tools you can probably do it. If not, money talks.

I too would like to retain the 6 volt system and need to add A/C....can a 12 volt unit be converted?  Mine dose not need to be correct looking as cooling is more important to me...

I am going to Air Condition my 1952 Imperial. I do not wish to change
the
electrical system from 6 volt + ground to 12 volt for many reasons.
Has
anyone ever heard of, or considered, putting an AC system from a
another 6
volt year, such as a "53 or "54 Airtemp, in a "52 or earlier? I do
not > know
when Chrysler went to 12 volt.

I would add that they made 21,000 custom Imperials in "52 and'53.

about 320 of the 1953 Crown shown. The interior is upgraded in the

wood, etc. I have a '52 Custom and I believe the body style and

exactly the same in 1953 and 1954. I had two '54's, one with grey >

and the other with red and white leather. The notable differences are
the
W.P. Chrysler "diving eagle" hood ornament in 1953 and '54, and the

grille and 235 horsepower upgrade in 1954. I wish, though, they had >

AC in '52. It's hot in S. Florida.

In 1953, Imperial seemed to start taking Cadillac
seriously. Compared to 1952 the 53 model appears
longer, sleeker, and more luxurious. The interior is
vastly upgraded, too. Additionally, in later 1953,
Powerflite automation transmission was introduced
replacing the old Klunk-O-Matic. The industry's best
A/C system was introduced about the same time. The
Ebay '53 has both features, making it as highly
desireable as a '53 can be. Plus, it is a pristine
car. It definitely gets my vote.

Hey everyone,
I was on ebay and seen the 52 Imperial and the 53
Imperial. Why is the 53 so much and the 52 with
10,000 original miles, original everything not
bidding as well. There are no hits on the 52. Is it
because everyone is bidding on the 53 and when they
dont get it they will go to the 52?
