After trying my hand at sanding down one brake shoe set and seeing how uneven I was getting it, I decided to contact Dallas Brake & Clutch and see if they had the equipment to reduce the thickness of the linings. They do have the right equipment, so my wife and I made another trip to their location and they removed the excess lining material in less than 5 minutes at no charge to me. I expect installation to go much easier now. I think the lesson I learned will be valuable to others who face re-lining brake shoes on '62 and earlier models. Look for a brake and clutch re-lining business in a major metropolitan area near you and they probably can re-line your shoes and grind them down to the service manual recommended thickness for you year and model of Imperial. My wife and I also used the trip for an excuse to eat lunch out and had some ice cream afterward. Thanks to everyone for their help and suggestions! Joe Joseph W.
