Hi Mike,
What you've experienced isn't all that unusual, especially if your top is "getting on" in age.  I've had a bunch of convertibles over the years and it's happened to me more than once after leaving the top down for an extended period of time.  Without the pressure of the top frame and loss of heat in the evening the fabric contracts.
This has done the trick for me.  Raise the top and leave it up even though it won't latch.  Parking it where it will get plenty of sun will help too.  Once the top fabric warms up it will expand enough to latch.

Put the top down, and  been driving my 67 imperial convertible around the last couple of weeks, went to put it up,  and it's too short, I adusted the latches as far as I can and I cannot get it close enough to latch it, why did it do that? anybody have any Ideas ?  , thanks mike becker
