One important step in adjusting your torsion bars is to raise the front end to take all the load off the suspension before you try to turn the adjusting bolts. If you try to adjust while loaded, you risk blowing out the adjuster nut. I managed to do that twice on my '62 Imperial recently. I was able to find a spring shop that could make a new nut from bar stock. The bolt is a fine thread, so it will take many turns before you see a change.
