The tow package has 6 1/2 leaf vs7 leaf (standard) according to my FSM
It has a very firm rear end (no pun intended) and sits quite high. Can those of you looking for springs get new ones which meet the towing spring specs?

The transmission guy told me he thought the the drive shift was hitting the floor because of sagging springs. The springs are just about flat. In you experience, does this sound like the proper diagnosis? I was actually turning into the parking lot of the spring place last October when the power steering hose ruptured so springs moved down a bit on the priority list. On '56 through at least '62, and possibly the others as well, this usually creates a very annoying vibration during acceleration. Some of this can be alleviated by removing the stack of shims undereneath the carrier bearing housing. Doing that makes the angle incorrect when there are passengers in the back seat. I question the need to raise the car. It was designed to be a particuar hieght for both appearance and handling reasons. Last fall I priced a set of springs for a 63 Imperial. The price was around $459.00. I have not yet purchased them but have bought springs from Eaton for other cars. They make the springs to your specifications. I have had springs made to raise the vehicle above stock height.
