IML: Speedometer/Odometer Repairs on a 64 Imp

Hi List,

I rarely post here, but I do have a dilemma.  The speedometer and odometer 
on my 1964 Crown Coupe have ceased working.  The speedometer failed first, 
indicating no speed at all; however the odometer and trip meter continued to 
work for about 3 months give or take a few days.  Then I heard  a metallic 
sound while driving one day and the odometers also quit as well.  I know 
this is quite a task to remove the entire instrument cluster.  I have NEVER 
done this on an Imperial, but have on other more modern cars.  Has anybody 
on the list removed their own instrument panel on a 64/65/66 Imperial ?
And has anybody used a service company to fix or restore their broken 
speedometer unit and had a positive recommendation ?  All my gauges are 
working and my clock was "restored" in 2000 and worked well for FIVE years.  
It last worked in 2005.  I had the clock repaired/restored as original and 
did not convert it to quartz movement.  I will have to see if this is 
something I can try to repair myself or if I will send it out again.  I 
think it was around $65 when it was sent out, but that was 7 yrs ago.
