Re: IML: Headers for Imperials

We had a club member that put headers on his 62 against others advice. He found that he had overheating problems on long trips.

Headers a neat on a race car, but on an Imp. I just don't see the use.We had Many cars that ran in the 12- 14 second times that had stock cast iron manifolds, with few mods, but with 4800-5000 lb cars the most important thing is torque.Since that is developed at lower RPMs, the headers are of little use. With less exhaust restriction, low speed driveability can suffer, I learned that long ago, I installed the entire exhaust system from a 71 340 Duster, on my 65 273 Formula S Barracuda, it killed the motor under 3000 RPM, the original exhaust was a 21/4" single. It sounded good, but it didn't run better.I would have to say the Engineers, did their home work, and that few changes we make, are better.Just a thought, Dave.
