Subject: RE: IML: Seat belts-1960
What was the first year seat belts were available as an option on =
Imperials?
What year did they become standard?
As best as I can tell, seat belts (2, front) became an option in 1962.
In 1964, two front retractable seat belts became an option... this might
mean that non-retracting lap belts were now standard. In '66, front and rear
center seatbelts were optional, strongly implying that two front and two
rear belts were standard. Front driver and passenger shoulder belts became
an option in '67, and rear left and right shoulder belts became an option
in '68. In '69, six seat belts were standard, and front driver and passenger
shoulder belts were an option for half the year, then required. I don't
think read shoulder belts ever became standard.
