typically these old convertibles used brake fluid. the owners manual may confirm this. dot 3 or 4 will do just fine. my 54 windsor conv had not been operated for 20 years. when i hit the switch nothing happened. i made sure power was getting to the motor, and then i pulled it out, took it apart, cleaned everything, and upon re-istalling everything worked fine. i use brake fluid.   dennis
