Sorry, guys, I've been off the list for most of the week - all our kids/grandkids/spouses/in-laws/outlaws/friends and enemies are gathering here this week, for our 50th wedding anniversary celebration, and I've been busy with "honey-do's" all week. (About 90 people gathering - ARRRgh!) I've got RVs all over my lot, and the electric company is grinning ear to ear (it been over 100, and everyone has their AC going full blast). Thank goodness for the pool! Yes, I had a line on some really big car covers - I brought a bunch up to the SCIOC meeting in April, and donated some to the club auction/raffle, and sold the rest. These are very nice covers, but you need to understand that they are not the soft cloth type - they are made of what appears to be "rip-stop" nylon - tough stuff, very light in weight, they will pack into a plastic bag the size of a basketball or so. The reason I like them is that they are dust proof, but they breathe, so you don't need to worry about trapping moisture against the car surface. I use them inside my buildings, because they keep the dust from coating the cars (I live in a very dusty area). They are great for inside a building, but they are so light in weight that they need to be tied down if you are going to use them outside. These are the only non-custom made covers I have found that are large enough for our big cars - I have them on my 67s and 68s and even on a 1 ton dually crew cab long bed truck (different size cover, of course) and on my Packards. These are big enough that they come all the way down to a couple of inches above the ground all the way around the car, (sides, back and front), and loose enough that you don't need to worry about protrusions like mirrors. They have elastic in the hem, so they cling to the sides of the car, and there is a grommet to tie them on (which you have to do if there is any wind). Things that are sharp would probably cut through the material, though, so you need to upend a plastic cup or a rag or something of the sort to protect the cover from the hood ornament. I use a plastic drinking cup on my 81's ornament, for instance. If your antenna won't retract, you'll have to put a hole in the cover - I haven't done that because all my antennae work OK. I can get more of these for around $65 each, if I order them in batches. I don't know what the shipping will be, I'll have to find that out depending on where they have to go. These come from the same manufacturer as the ones you can see at: www.theezcover.com, but the ones I can get are probably seconds - (although I've never found any defects in them). The normal price is about $100, but that includes the silly plastic storage case - which I tried and felt it was a waste of time. The size that fits our Imperials is for a 19 foot long car - it is big enough but not way over sized. Kenyon has one - so get his opinion of whether it is a good cover or not. For a cheap cover, I think they are a great deal, but a $400 cover it is not! If there is interest in some more of these, I will contact my source and see if I can get another batch - I know it will take a couple of weeks to get them out to you, though. Dick Benjamin has a line on a really super cover. I'll leave it to him to speak up on that, but as usual, you can take what he has to say to the bank. The stuff on ebay fits the 81 and later stuff. Covering a 1973 or 66 is another discussion altogether. -Kenyon Kenyon Wills ----------------- http://www.imperialclub.com ----------------- This message was sent to you by the Imperial Mailing List.
