Hi Greg......I know what you mean with trying to remove the straps! They were a real bear!!! but, since mine were all gunked up with what I think (if I remember right) was undercoating and something else, I believe I used some kereosene that I sprayed on and got enough of the tar and whatever off so that i could just get a open-end wrench on the bolts. It took a whwile! but I did get the nuts off and eventually was able to reuse the straps and bolts, etc. However, I do remember that there was someplace that sole new bolts, straps and everthing you needed but I just can't remember WHERE I say the ad!! sorry!! If I remmber I'll let you know!! Good Luck!! Dan Melnik ---- gpagency@xxxxxxx wrote: ============= Thanks Dan!! It came right out. The hole was gummed up so it looked like it was round inside. Squirted a little wd40 and cleaned right up. Much appreciated. Now I'm going out cut off the straps since there is no way to get a wrench on the bolts. I have new straps and bolts. Don't remember exactly what size, maybe a 1/4 or 3/8 but...one of the exterts will probably add their email with the exact size! Pretty straightforward to remove, just be sure you have as much gas removed as possible....it gets HEAVY otherwise!!!!. Also, the removing of the straps to drop the tank was a real joy! ....If you can get new ones and maybe a new set ofstraps, these will make things MUCH easier when you put that puppy back into the car! Good Luck! Dan Melnik ---- gpagency@xxxxxxx wrote: ============= I hope this doesn't sound to stupid but I am replacing my gas tank and I am not sure how to remove the gas tank drain plug. I am assuming it is the metal round plug at the front end of the tank. I can't tell if it unscrews or you pry it out. It has a hole in the middle of it that sort of looks like an allen wrench may go in it but nothing I had fit. How do I remove it?
