Re: IML: Seeking Input on a Cousin Car

The 1954 Chrysler New Yorker came with a 331-cid hemi, with the DeLuxe
series having a 4-bbl carb. The 1954 Custom/Crown Imperials used the 4-bble
carb verison of the 331 hemi, which first appeared in 1951 and last used in
1955. The American 1956 Windsor used a poly version of the 331.

The wheel covers are, IMHO, tacky wannabe wire wheels. The wide whites are
not correct for a 1954 with that width dying out at the beginning of the
1953 model year. I doubt that the paint is original ,which also places
doubts about other ascpects of the car..

Loved the comment, "It has all working A/C equipment except the compressor".
Like saying it has all working powertrain except the engine.

This car is up for sale by a dealer. Photos are too slick with few
important details shown on the car and there not too many private sellers
who put "View out other auctions" on the page.. Mind you, not all photos
appeared and when right clicking the mouse to use "Show Photo" results in a
small window "Images Copyright Find Great Cars"

Personally I would keep looking. There are 1953-55 Imperials out there that
can be had for less and from more open sellers. If you love Exner's work,
look for a 1955 Imperial. The 1954 models had Exner's touch on the trim,
but the basic body was done before his arrival. The 1954 DeSoto and
Chrysler bodies were a carry-over from 1953 which in turn was a major
overhaul on the 1949-52 body. Exner would give the body one last revamp
for 1955, although the changes were so great it is hard to tell the origins
of the body.

Gentleman,

What type of motor would be powering this beauty?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170000877533&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT&ih=007

It seems the lister is none too versed in his own car? I am looking for a
"complement" for my 1956 4 door Imperial sedan and though I prefer to stay
in the Imperial mode as I have developed many contacts and quite the
education building my pride, as it were, for some reason only a few Imperial
models of the sixties really do it for me so I lean toward the 50's vintage
for the full effects of horsepower coming of age as well as the amenities,
re: a/c, p/w, p/s and though this is obviously not an Imperial, I have
become a fan Walter's (and particularly early Virgil Exner) production
tendencies and this piques my interest, unless there is an Imperial fellow
member who, has and is willing to part with, their love to a fan and growing
aficionado who sops up the help of Dick, Elijah, Rodger and Gabby, and the
other incredibly helpful members of this site and the vendors who are so
instrumental in keeping/bringing our loves to life as I would faithfully.
Thanks one and all always.

Respectfully,

Jack/ybshore 1956 Four Door Sedan Imperial

PS My nickel on the IML Emailing: I have never read anything from any
posting that I did not learn something from, whether it pertained to my
particular vehicle or not........furthermore, I would rather see an IML
message on my screen for I KNOW it will be "fun", if not, as I saw before on
another well put posting: the button is called DELETE if you do not want to
read it and if you are so busy in your caught up life that postings are an
issue for you, I strongly suggest a ride on infinite proportion in your
classic with no phone or radio for a good chill out!!!!!!!!!
