Re: IML: '56 Rear Brake Lines

The vent has nothing to do with brake pressure. Its purpose, is to equilize pressure in the rear axle housing. This prevents gear oil from blowing into brakes, and from leaking from pinion seal. Dave.

The vent on the axle is for excess pressure inside rear axle. The bolt that holds the brake fitting tee, is hollow with a cap on top. Do not eliminate it. Hope this helps. Dave.

RE: my vent/relief on my '56:  should there even be one at the rear axle, or should there be just the tee fitting for the brake lines................we were concerned it is supposed to be there and is to provide relief in the event of excessive pressure from the brake system:  can/should it be eliminated???

Thanks much.
