RE: IML: Manifold Leak 64 413

Sounds like it may have blown out the gasket at the exhaust crossover passage there. I wonder why though. Anyway, you can change the gasket either with a stock "bathtub" gasket, or a bathtub with the Felpro "sandwich" gaskets which supply four pieces to "sandwich" the bathtub, or cut down your bathtub to use only as a valley cover and install soft "race" style gaskets. I think since it must be an exhaust leak from the crossover passage, I would try a new bathtub first with no other pieces. I'm assuming that you replaced the engine with the same rebuilt one or a similiar year, if it is later model and has an EGR, which now probably wouldn't be hooked up, I wonder if that may be causing leakage/other problems.

The remanufactured engine I installed on my 64 has about 800 miles on it. It recently developed what I thought was an exhaust leak noise.

Today, I noticed that the intake manifold on the driver's side and in line with the carb was white from heat. A stethoscope showed the noise coming from that area.

Other than a new intake gasket, does anyone have a fix for this situation?

Thanks,
