Title: Re: IML: Chrysler 300
Can we please avoid the ethnic slurs? I enjoy my Japanese cars as much as my Imperial, NYB and Mopars, and have an all-original 1987 Honda (my first new car) and a 1993 Miata that have both achieved collectible status and have also been paragons of durability. I also enjoy my Japanese friends, by the way, and find this kind of post somewhat offensive.

People from many countries love the American dream for the optimism and good life it represented, and the American cars of the 50s, 60s and early 70s probably represented it best. But people all around the world also collect English, German, Italian and even Japanese cars. There are even Japanese classic car shows in the US now (I took a trophy at one last year, and had a wonderful time with an enormous diversity of attendees, as much fun as I have at all my Mopar and American-car events). There are things to enjoy from every culture, and they are not hard to find, even in the automotive world.

I’m also thrilled that I can own modern Chrysler products that are reliable and fun, too, but I don’t believe this was as broadly true 20 years as it is now. In many ways domestic cars are so much better now because of the pressure put on the market by the Japanese auto makers. And in turn, the success of cars like the 300 is forcing conservative brands like Toyota to pay attention to styling and passion. If it makes people appreciate cars as more than appliances, then it’s better for our hobby in general, since the fun cars of today will be the collectibles of tomorrow if people still love cars.

I get so tired of people saying that the American quality is not as good as the Jap cars, while that may have been true at one time I look at them now as can see much difference in them.   I also can point out that 50s 60s and early 70s Cars are still around and able to be brought back to life while the 70s 80s japs cars are being crushed because there is nothing left to be able to fix them.  The 240z and 260z are about as close as they can get to being able to save.   I am sorry for the way that I feel about the Jap cars but I can't help it.  No Im not.    Why are the Japanese buying our  muscle cars and other collectables if there cars are so good
