Lowell has an on-the-shelf solution for 1950's/1960's cars that includes a spring and a new, thicker keeper with more metal around the hole that the spring goes into. He likely will back off and disclaim having an answer for anything newer than 1968, where he draws his inventory line, but you're probably OK - they didn't do much to change the stuff as far as I can tell on my cars. He'll also know what you'll have to do to re-assemble, I should suspect. Sometimes it's the spring, and sometimes it's the keeper (the notched thing on the door mechanism) that fails. Double check your keeper to see that the hole that receives the spring on the pivoted keeper. I'd be amazed if the spring weren't interchangeable. Also would be surprised if you can redo that without removing the hinge from the body, but maybe there's a way and a right tool to get that very stiff spring coaxed onto the keeper in such a confined space. Let us know how you resolve this? -Kenyon --- Jay King <j_king@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Hi, list, > > Yesterday as I closed the driver's door on my '73 > LeBaron, I heard an ominous noise, and when I > checked, the spring that holds the door in the open > position had broken right at the retainer strap.
