If you are only thinking about resale, then restoration is the way to go, but among the kustom krowd it's about making "improvements" to one's own taste (which there is no accounting for). I can always see things I would change from "factory", like extra chrome that needs shaved, but even I would have trouble cutting on a nice low production car.
