Thanks to Dick and everyone else who chimed in with info, sources,
and ideas. I do like the 'largest, biggest, bestest' idea,
especially for these tanks. Hopefully I can get the final issues
with the carb resolved later this weekend and then replace the
battery (there's still some life in the old one so I'll finish
killing it rather than abuse a new one right off).
Now the only challenge is seeing if I can find a clerk at the parts
counter willing to just sell me a battery without punching year,
make, and model into his stupid computer first :-)

The original battery for your car is a BCA Group number 27. These
are still
common and easily available from many sources, as they are a favorite
with
the RV and boat crowd. You may have a little trouble finding them
with just
the plain old fashioned post terminals, many of the current group 27s
come
with extra terminals on top for the RV and Boat uses. However, I
believe
Interstate still makes a plain group 27 also.
The group 27 battery is likely to be the highest CCA rating you can
buy, so
it is an excellent choice for any car with enough room for it, by the
way. I
use them in my 67, 68 and 81 cars too.
