Glad that worked. I've had 60-63 Imperials for the past 37 years & have had this problem a number of times. Squeezing the tines always solved the problem, since there is no movement in the plastic part once the 2 parts are assembled, they move as one. The forks usually spread from taking the bezel off & allowing the buttons to hang or by moving them around when removing for cleaning etc. If you don't have the felt strip in there, you should get one of those as well.

Thanks again for the suggestions. I did get one of my spare buttons apart with out much trouble by sliding a thin screwdriver blade down the side releasing the punch in the chrome sleeve. However, the suggestion to squeeze the tines in the housing did the trick and snugged the button up. It no longer shoots the buttons out when changing gears. Thanks!
