look where the wiring goes through the firewall. i had a similiar 
problem and the rubber grommet had deteriorated and then the wires 
rubbed on the metal edge of the hole through the firewall and was 
shorting out the headlites. perhaps not your problem but it is a place 
to look.   dennis  53 imp custom,  54 windsor conv.
