Re: IML: Jay Leno Mentions Imperial no park?

The 2-speed Powerflite of 1953-61, the cast-iron case Torqueflite of
1956-61, the A904 Torqueflite Six (used on the 1960-61 Pymouth and Dodge
Dart) and the 1962 A727 Torqueflite used on the Dodge Custom 880, Chrysler
and Imperial did not have a park sprag. These units had the emergency
brake on the driveshaft at the rear of the transmission. And all these
models had Lockheed brakes.

When Chrysler adopted Bendix brakes with the emrgency brake on the rear
wheels, Chrysler replaced the transmission brake with a park sprag in the
Torqueflite transmission - 1960 Valiant, 1961 Dodge Lancer, 1962 Plymouth,
1962 Dodge Dart/Polara, 1963 Dodge 880/Custom 880, 1963 Chrysler and 1963
Imperial.

With the no parking sprag units, when you wanted to park the car you stopped
the car, placed the car in neutral, put the emergency brake on and shut off
the engine. To start and go, start the engine, place the car in gear,
release the parking brake, and hit the accelerator to drive off.
