I don't believe for a second that Iacocca would have killed the Imperial if he'd have gotten to Chrysler sooner. He's a salesman. I remember his interviews about the need for a luxury niche vehicle. I think he was just distancing himself from the perceived failure. If they'd have sold hundreds of thousands of 80's Imperials and 2,000 K cars he'd have said that he wanted to kill the K car, but got to Chrysler too late.

IIRC, the statement about if they had "all sold" came from the fact that the '81 was supposed to be a "limited" edition and production was going to be limited to about 25,000. They only sold eight thousand and change in 1981 and then another few thousand over the next two years. You'd better believe that if they sold 25,000 Imperials Iacocca would have been taking credit for his bold vision.

I'm not sure about the fuel injection badges. My '82 has it, my '83 no longer has the fuel injection and the badges were shaved before I bought it.
