I know of this outfit and I would recommend that you have them restore the tube workings as opposed to replacing them with solid state. The cost is lower and it doesn't inhibit adding FM as there are self contained converter circuits available that can be tied into the existing radio. I should also mention that they often do not have solid state conversions available for older or less popular radios. There is also at least one retired technician on this list, on the US side, who can probably restore your set for a very reasonable price.

One point that I am confused about is why the AM broadcast band on your set needs to be extended to receive 1660 KC, I have been an old radio collector for years and the vast majority of sets will tune up to 1700 KC without a problem. If your set does not receive this station then I suspect it may be out of alignment. If it can't receive this station, and it is aligned to factory spec, then the radio's oscillator circuits can be tweaked to pick it up but this will throw the dial markings out a little bit.

I'm getting ready to send the radio from my '56 C-73 to Antique Automobile Radio in Palm Harbor, Fl. It is a Town & Country Wonderbar.

They say they will convert it to AM-FM while maintaining the search tuning feature along with extending the AM tuning range (to 1660 KC). The reason I'm interested in the additional range is that the local classical music broadcaster transmits @ 1660. ( I know, you're wondering about a classical station on AM. That's just the way it is here in Kansas. )

Has anyone had experience with this company? I looked in the archives and didn't see much. Any advice would be appreciated.
