IML: 69 Imp Dead Electrical

Just when I thought it was safe, yet another problem. I took the 69 down to
get some gas & decided to take a ride on the highway. Since I've had the car
back on the road, I've just been going around town. I decided I would also
put the A/C on too. Everything seemed to be fine & when I got off the
highway, the amp meter registered hard to the discharge side when idling at
the stop light. When I stopped at the last light before getting home, the
car stalled & I realized the entire electrical system is dead. Of course, it
was right in the middle of a busy street with about 8 cars behind me. I
couldn't believe it when a woman stopped & offered to help me push it off
the street. She then offered the use of her cell phone.
My first thought is that the fusible link burned out. I tried
running a jumper wire from the positive battery terminal to the starter
relay where it appears the fusible link goes & nothing. The engine will
crank with a remote starter switch connected to the relay, but the engine
sounds very unhappy & won't start. I was doing this trouble shooting on the
side of the road in the hot sun, 109 degrees today. I had to have it towed
the 1/4 mile back to the house.
Anyone have any ideas on this one? I'm about to throw in the towel on
this car.
John
