The commutator should be clean, shiny and bright gold in color. You can clean it with fine sandpaper, but you need to be very sure to get all the grit off it when you are done. Then de-grease it with brake cleaner to make sure you don't get it contaminated again. The brushes need to be cleaned off also. O rings are in stock at any NAPA Store. Be sure they know it is for Brake Fluid, as there are different compounds used to make them. There are folks who are in the business of rebuilding these motors - we've mentioned them on the IML before - one I have used is San Gabriel Convertible Top service, in San Gabriel CA. Nice folks, and they know what they are doing.
