RE: IML: AUTOWEEK/Hemmings

Dear Henry,

You have shamed me in to belatedly offering my thanks and congratulations for getting our favorite marque in the spotlight, or at least the mainstream press.

I may have an explanation.  I took Hemmings for many years, but finally stopped.  Why?  Well, (until they adopted a new format with feature articles) it was the same old cars and dealers and parts vendors every month.  The only thing that changed was a few new and deleted listings.  Furthermore, it was overwhelmingly Fords and Chevys.  Yes, if you are a Big Time collector, you can get it airmailed or even Federal Expressed to your door, so you can be the first person to call on a new listing.  But for the average Joe, it simply wasn’t worth the effort to turn literally hundreds of pages to see a few pages of things that interest you.  Hemmings figured out that they were missing a big part of the market, so they expanded their offerings, and now I get Hemmings Muscle Machines, Hemmings Classic Car, and now I just subscribed to yet another Hemmings for foreign cars.  Hemmings is still excellent for finding parts vendors and specialty suppliers, and if I need to find something along those lines I will buy it.

Maybe that explains why our fellow IML members didn’t overwhelm you with compliments, but I have seen your work and you do deserve some.

Sincerely,

Brandy Elitch

Don't be too surprised that IML folks have not noticed the article in Autoweek.  I say this because my 60 Imperial is on the cover of the July Hemmings Motor News with an accompanying article on 60 to 63 Imperials.  One person mentioned the article.  Two friends on the IML sent me  congratulatory notes and there may have been one other mention.  Of course, it is a really big deal for me.  I guess IML folks don't buy or subscribe to Hemmings.  I expected there would be quite of few reactions ranging from "Way to go!" to positive and/or negative opinions about the article to "How did you get your car on the cover?" and "Can I do that?" and "How?" etc.

I thought getting the word out about what great cars Imperials are would be of interest.  Ah well, I sure got a big kick out of it.

Did the article have a photo of the '57?

Thank you

Hi'

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the article in AutoWeek magazine about Imperials. It was a column by the publisher, Rich Ceppos about the recent Orphan Car Show in Yspilanti, Michigan. He and other AutoWeek people judged the "Orphans of the Big Three" class and gave the trophy to ".....a showroom-perfect flesh-colored 1957 Imperial with only 12,000 original miles on it. It's big-finned optimism shouted  'Detroit at it's peak'  ".
