I do not have very much information on the la baron, but I can type up a
complete paragraph about the Coachworks Le Baron or the Le Baron.
Any way back in the thirties Walter P. Chrysler made a contract with the Le
Baron Coachworks to do only his vehicles. And from that time on no more
Packard, Lincoln's and for sure no Caddy's had their name on the cars. It is now
said one of the other firms had a contract for one to do their custom Coachworks
and Chrysler did this to secure his place in the prestige marketing world.
>From this time until the end of 1963 the Le Baron Coachworks Cloisonne' (
crest ) was to appear on the car. The Le Baron to be went down the same assembly
line as the Imperial. As the Imperial end thru the back door it was a
finished product. The Le Baron to be was still to visit the Le Baron Coachworks
shop. The Le Barons of this era were all special orders and never reached the
2,000 made in one year mark. There were no cookie cutter Le Baron's. At first
Le Baron Coachworks had their shop at Bridgeport, Connecticut and then moved
to Michigan at some time
Because of the low volume and higher cost very little is know about this
vehicle. ( Take a look at each years production.)
Starting in 1964 the Coachworks Cloisonne' was dropped due to a buy out or
whatever and the name of Le Baron appeared next to Imperial. By the end, I
think the name Imperial was dropped as the vehicle slid out of sight.
Then the light bulb went on so the Chrysler Imperial and the Chrysler Le
Baron appeared. Just so you would not be confused they now had it listed as the
LeBaron or whatever.
If you have a chance to view the paper work of a true Le Baron you will see
the make is Le Baron, not Imperial. ( A Dodge truck frame and running gear
that was sent to Coachman Motor Homes in Ohio is the same. )
