If you can still find it, the Knize oil filter study online was about as
objective as Ive seen between brands. This guy took his own dime, his own
time and bought all the different filters for the Mopar and Ford application
as he could find. He cut them apart and measured them, did oil pressure
tests, etc etc on them.
Filter companies complained, though as I type this I do not remember what
specific legal complaint they had. The site has moved a few times, but it
was an excellent study between the different brands.
Basically, a whole bunch of filters are made FOR the respective brand by
other companies. The highest marks went to the Wix filters, the NAPA Gold
filters ( not the silverline Napa ), the AC as I recall . Fram was
basically about as good as a roll of Charmin and many of the oil branded
filters such as Penzoil or Quaker were just repackaged junk.
Imho, a Wix or Napa Gold filter every time. Ill change the filter at the
halfway point of the interval and add a quart of oil to make up the
difference. What oil to use is an entirely other thread and is way to
personal to even go into.
