Re: IML: Broadway Title Co. to obtain title on abadoned car

True. In most states, including Massachusetts. one can get new "original" titles for abandoned/restored cars. I have a 1954 Packard Cavalier undergoing major resto. Once the car is finished and driveable I will get a new registration for it.

You don't nec. need to go through these title
companies. In your own state the dept of motor
vehicles has a process of titeling "abandoned". I had
a situation with a untitled motorcycle. First go to
your local state office that issues your license
plates and get their form to run the Vehicle
Identification Number to ensure it is not currently
registered as stolen. Then perhaps they can also tell
you who last registered the car. If it happens to be
the same family as the person you bought it from, a
lost title form is all that is needed. Otherwise a
written explanation of how the car cam into possession
of the seller is needed. I would get it notorized.
Your local DMV will then direct you on how to title
the car. Basically you get an indemity bond from an
insurance co., this insurance insures the car from any
claim to it by anyone in the future - that is to say
if anyone comes forward and proves their claim to the
car, the insurace co. pays them off. the cost of the
bond is relative to the value of the car. You then
take this paperwork to the a state inspection office
who ensures there are valid VIN numbers in all the
right places, verifies the DMV stolen car search, and
issues a new title for your own state. These other
companies like Broadway issue you paperwork form
states that accept bills of sale as transfer of title
for cars older than XYZ years. This state paperwork
form Alabama or Maine or wherever is then dutifully
accepted by your state. One way you do some leg work
and ensure the car is more legit and have insurance
against a future claim. Broadway and co. make life
easier by creating a one stop shop. Easier but also
an avenue that is rife with abuse and fraud. Think of
how many "abandoned" car VIN's go through Braodway and
similar companies. That is a discussion for another
day. I'm sure your situtation is legit and all will
work out either way you go.
Good Luck.

Ok guys....someone out there sent out a link for
Broadway Title in response
to someones email about an Imperial abandoned in the
woods that they
wondered how they might acquire title for.
Ok...here is the deal...I am
having a similar dilema with my sons latest
acquisition. He has purchased a

Duster, and guess what...no title...great! So, do
any of you have
experience with this Broadway Title Company that was
suggested on the IML.
I want to make sure I am dealing with persons on the
up and up and
definitely need some reassurance here before sending
off my cash.

Thanks in advance!

Teresa
