I've spent quite a bit of time thinking about what I'll do with my 1960 Le Baron. I plan to do black. My opinion is that it makes the stainless and chrome really jump out at you, and it's formal and maybe a little sinister if you look at the car just right in the right light.... It'll certainly highlight all of the imperfections in my body work, but I don't care - this thing is my sculpture, and I'll live with whatever monkey business does not get erased by my board sander. Other suggestions: There is a midnight blue metallic. My parts car retains about 40% of its surface in that color (run hard and put away wet). http://imperialclub.com/Yr/1960/Kenyon/Page05.htm I put the buffer on it just to see, and it is a really dynamic color. I suggest getting a small batch made up, spraying it on an item and taking it out in the sunlight. the color is so nice that it's worth the energy to investigate it. The color chip does not do it justice, and its dark enough that the chrome will still look sizzling on it. One could theoretically skimp and skip the doorjambs and not have it be really blantant after sunset, but car shows would be murder if you opened the doors in the sunlight. The Mettalic gives the paint some serious depth and dimensionality that would likely look really superb on the blind sail panel aft of the rear door. How about shooting the door jambs with a touchup gun ahead of time so that they match when you go in for the BIG SPRAY? http://imperialclub.com/Yr/1960/Paint/Page02.jpg The (also LeBaron) donor body shell I have was LIGHT MINT. Look at the color chart for this one above - you'd never pay it any mind if you weren't aware of it. I have to presume that whoever bought that car ordered it custom, as I think that it's even more adventurous than either of the mauves, and the dawn mauve is certainly waaay out there. How in tarnation you get your interior to match without a 100% redo and cornering the market in mint and medium green leather is beyond me, but you want to stand out from the rest of us 196o idiots, that's the way to go where NOBODY is likely to follow any time soon. Remember, you're doing a custom order here, not buying out of dealer inventory, so don't feel hemmed in by what everyone else happened to wind up with. My vote is for the midnight blue if you're interested in adding some character, black if you want to play it safe. The car's not a real serious item (?), so go with the blue. You only live once. 196o LeBaron Paint Advisory Board ----------------- http://www.imperialclub.com ----------------- This message was sent to you by the Imperial Mailing List.
