No, its energy content. The alcohols have less energy than hydrocarbons of the
same size. Also, the higher the ratio of carbon to hydrogen, the higher the
energy content of the hydrocarbon per pound (and usually per gallon). That's
why propane or natural gas have less energy than gasoline, and diesel fuel has
more energy than gasoline.
