RE: IML: Points to Electronic conversion

There are a few ways to go from points to electronic. The "usual" way is the Direct Connection-now Mopar Performance kit. It's easy to do and we did it a loooooong time ago (1973?) on my 'cuda which is still running the same box, distributor, etc. It's a little more expensive than some of the other routes, but you get a NEW distributor. Other options include piecing a kit together from junkyard parts-cheap, but you don't know what you're getting and Pertronix. I've never used the Pertronix kit, but I know people that swear by them.

There are many places that sell these kits. Ebay usually has them, as does Mancini and you can also get them direct from Chrysler (Mopar Connections) . They are somewhere between $150.00 to $200.00 depending on who has them. You can get them from the wrecking yards as well, but quite often the ignition box is burnt out. The kits consists of the distributor, electronic ignition box, wire harness and resistor. Very easy to do, as long as you mark your distributor as to which cylinder is firing when you remove it and put it back with the rotor pointing to the same place. Also, note that the distributors are different between the Big Block 'B' or low block and 'RB' or raised block engines. The ones for the 'RB' are about 3/4 inch taller to take into account the increased block height.

Is there anything on this at our site about this conversion, if there is I can't find it. Is there a conversion kit I can buy?

Thanks Luis
