While periodically there are rumours that the VIN number is stamped on the frame (somewhere), typically 55 and 56 Dodges only have one VIN tag.
It is ALWAYS (for 55 and 56) located on the LHD drivers side forward door jamb. Attached by some weird tamper proof "rivet" (no screws).
At the start of the 55 Dodge model run, there were no data tags. Later in the run, there were cowl data tags that were screwed to the fire wall in the
engine bay, up high on the passenger side for the Detroit cars and on the drivers side for the Los Angeles cars. It did NOT include a VIN number just
the codes for the various options, body type, paint code and trim code.
Here is an example 55 Dodge Detroit VIN tag. IF your 55 has a similar tag but it doesn't match the number on the "pink slip" you are in for a
lot of "fun" with the DMV. Good luck.
