I bought my 57 Savoy without keys.
I am trying to find out the correct key blanks.
I see on ebay that the DPCD blanks are available but ther are 2 different blanks.
One has a single grove and the other has a double grove. Is that correct?
Im guessing one is for the ignition and one for the door and glove box.
Can someone post a picture of the correct 57/58 keys that they have for their car.

Thanks, Blast

The ignition/door key changed slightly starting in 1964 but most people/sellers don't recognize that fact because the key from 1967 will still work in the ignition of a '56 Plymouth. However, the problem lies at the door lock. The newer key has an extended ledge that prevents it from fully engaging in the older door lock. So if you see a blank that is advertised over that extended range, most likely it is made for the newer style door lock and not the older one. But many people are clueless, so it's possible that they list the same range for an older key blank.

Here is an example of the correct key for our cars.

This is a set of the keys with the forwardlook emblem. Notice that they list an extended range out to 1966. I believe they do this because the trunk lock changed in 1967, but I'm not sure. Confused yet?

AS your resident 50+ year locksmith, that is the correctly milled blank.

Ian: I believe that the trunk key is different and the blank is a Ilco Y149 or equivalent?

No, the glove box key is the same as the trunk key.

So now Im confused.
Some say the DPCD blank which are single and double groved.
Some say the ilco 1704k and 1703k double grove blank which I think are close to if not the same.
Some say the ilco Y149 which come in a single grove key and double grove.
So the trunk key is a single grove and the ignition and doors are the double grove Correct?
So now which key is the original key blanks. The DPCD or the ilco Blanks.
Im leaning more towards the ilco key blanks.

I would like to know this as well .
The keys I got with my 58 Dodge Custom Royal are aftermarket keys .
The Ignition and door lock key works fine but the Trunk/Boot and Glove Box lock key doesn't work in either lock .
The key that has been used for the Trunk lock is a EZYCUT 124LV and I notice it has a groove on both sides.
While other Trunk Lock key blanks I have seen only have a groove on one side .
I would like to know the correct blank so i can take my Boot lock to a Locksmith and get a key cut .

I just notice that there isnt a single and double grove key.
The single grove that I see is the other side of the key.
So one side has a double grove and the back side has a single grove.
Im assuming that the blank is the same for the ignition, doors, trunk and glove box.
The difference is in the keying, I guess.

No. The ignition and door key should be the same. The trunk is something else. Two different key
blanks. Imopar380 (Ian) is a professional lock smith. His opinion is not an opinion it is a fact.

You should pay attention to what he says.

Here is a set that would work for you. Note the Pentagon key is the ignition and door key. The round head
key is the trunk key. The blanks are NOT the same.

My 56 Dodge keys (that I had to get made from scratch) use an Ilco Y153 for the ignition and door key and a Y149 for
the trunk lock.

This one has the forwardlook symbol on it, which is kindof cool, for a reasonable price; but doesn't include the trunk/glove box key.
