I need to replace the speedo cable core on my 58 New Yorker wagon.
What I have found online is .130 diameter, but my core is .125.
Does anyone have a line on the correct diameter core?
I would like to keep the original housing since most of the new stuff has a outer plastic covering.
Thanks
Bob

I've used a speedometer inside cable from Auto zone.
You cut it to length and there is a tool that comes with it to crimp the end on but the first time I tried it the end didn't stay on with the crimp so I just used a propane torch, flux and soldered it on.
It's been working fine now for several years now on a 1957 Dodge Sierra but I don't know the core diameter of it.

I believe the nominal dimension is .130"...the actual diameter will vary. The factory used a die to square the ends of the cable to .104".

If I remember correctly the Autozone cable end had the square tip already, the crimping tool, if you can call it that, that came with the AutoZone cable was to fasten the tip to the cable after the cable was cut to length.

I finally just bit the bullet and purchased a NOS cable off Ebay.
I had purchased a new core from Autozone that was indeed .130 diameter and it did barely fit my housing.
However with the assembly installed, with the correct routing, it would not turn freely.
Not wanting to damage my housing, I bought the NOS core and it is the correct .0125 diameter.
It turns freely and does not bind in any way.
Amazing that .005 makes that much difference, but it does.
Now I just need to remember to lube the speedo head wick every couple of years.
