Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 11122 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Lower Mainland BC | . I started out this little "project"/diversion to see if I could find the original primary and secondary jet sizes for Del S's 56 Dodge with the 2303S Carter WCFB carb on his "Super-Powered Super Red Ram" 315 poly. Along the way, I decided that I might as well add the 56 Fury and 56 Dodge D500 info if I could find it. And, oh yeah, I might as well include the 56 Plymouth 277 Power Pack cars. Well, that only partly worked out. I got quite a bit of data but, ironically, almost nothing for Del's 2303S. I used the 55-58 Parts book (pdf) to chase through to get the OE PNs for the Jets and then the Carter Numbers from the Carter section of the parts pdf. When I got that far and ended up with Carter 120-nnn numbers, I took that info to Mike's Carburetors to confirm the jet sizes. https://www.carburetor-parts.com/carter-jet-conversion?srsltid=AfmBO... Ultimately, I would like to be able to select larger/smaller jets from this source: https://www.carburetor-parts.com/search.asp?keyword=jet+sizes In the meantime, in order to fill in the blanks, I guess I am looking for the 2303S version of this: Edited by 56D500boy 2025-07-26 2:41 AM (SnippetOfCarterForm5128A_RegardingThe1955PowerPackWCFBs.jpg) (CarterWCFBJetPNsAndSizes.jpg) (CarterWCFBJetPNsAndSizesTable_Rev0.jpg) Attachments ---------------- SnippetOfCarterForm5128A_RegardingThe1955PowerPackWCFBs.jpg (145KB - 252 downloads) CarterWCFBJetPNsAndSizes.jpg (149KB - 263 downloads) CarterWCFBJetPNsAndSizesTable_Rev0.jpg (144KB - 293 downloads) | ||

Del S. came through with page 1 of Carter's Form 5172E that deals with the specs of the 2303 series (S, SA, etc). See below. That allows me to chase back-wards to find the OE PNs for a 0.089 primary jet and 0.0492 secondary jet. That chart has three Carter options for 0.089: 120-103 120-159 120-389 Of those three, the only one that cross-references in the 55-58 Parts book is 120-159 and that goes to OE PN 1400 857. Checking for 1400 857 hits in the parts pdf shows several applications. That includes a 2302S (the 56 Plymouth V8 Power Pack carb) and a 2444S (one of the 56 Adventurer dual 4bbls). But no 2303S, the 56 315 poly Dodge Power Pack carb, the reason I started searching for jet sizes in the first place. Which is disappointing. In fact, 2303S does not even show up in the list of carburetor parts. (???) Really disappointing. Moving on to the secondary jet, the 0.0492 jet, the chart only lists one, the 120-181. Chasing 120-181 in the parts pdf yields a Mopar 1631 551 and chasing that one yields NOTHING. Wait Whaattt?? Hmm...??? Just for fun, checking out the secondary jet for the 2302S yields 1631 354 which has a number of hits in the carb parts list and a cross reference to 120-217. Checking 120-217 in the Carter jet chart shows it up as 0.053, a bit bigger than 0.049. So all in all, a bit disappointing but perhaps also a bit enlightening. Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 11122 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Lower Mainland BC | . I guess until I find some more info, I am stuck with this Rev 1 table. I hope some one will benefit from what otherwise has been a waste of time and effort. I need to find a Carter 2442S data sheet. And some source of 2303S info. I need to find a Carter 2442S data sheet. Success!! Some nice person (Mike?) at Mike's Carburetors in Chehalis WA was nice enough to respond to my request (for the 2442S data sheet) and sent me a pdf of said same, Form 5217. I am a bit shocked/surprised that the 56 Fury with the 303 engine's 2442S has bigger jets than the 56 Dodge D500 315's 2443S jets. I think both carbs are rated at the same CFM (about 474?). Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 11122 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Lower Mainland BC | . Not sure what I was looking for but last night I found an eBay auction for a bunch of Carter Carburetor data sheets. They had images of a few including the 55 Dodge D55 4 bbl (for the 270 hemi) and the 1957 Dodge D500. Naturally, I had to save those images (with the jet sizes) and work my way through the 55-58 Parts pdf and the Carter jet data chart and add the resulting information to what, I hope, is the last version of the jetting data table. Interesting (to me) that when compared to the 56 Dodge D500 315 4 bbl, the 57 D500 325 4 bbl WCFB went down a size (or so) on the primary jet but kept the same secondary jet. Could imply that the 315 was actually over-jetted (??). Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 11122 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Lower Mainland BC | . I was discussing WCFB with Del S (Dels56) last week and was "inspired" to investigate my D500 WCFB because it is running rich (as my neighbour ("Dave, you car stinks"). I had previously watch a Nick's Garage video when they had a 1954 241 4bbl hemi (from a Indy Pace car clone) on his dyno and he wanted to try larger jets to make more horsepower, so I thought that I can start by checking out the jets in my spare 1956 D500 carburetor. The jet changing sequence in the video (start at 23:00). Then I thought, "what if you can't see the jet numbers on the jets?". Answer: Maybe I can use my numbered drill bits to check the jet size(s). https://youtu.be/kafSJu-eYFE So I found a chart with drill sizes and compared it to the jet sizes in the table above (Rev 4) to create Rev 5. I found that while most of the jet sizes translated to numbered drill sizes, some only worked as equivalent to metric sizes.
