Can anyone decode this a little more? I know it's Canadian from the L and my guess is the E is for a 313, the XXX is Eggshell White and the DXA is for black and white interior. What other information is in this plate? Thanks guys.

I think the "L" is just 1958, not Canada. But that definitely is a Canadian Dodge date plate. Unfortunately, those plates do not tell us very much.

Not sure about the "E" = 313, but you are likely correct that the engine is a 313.

Chrycoman (Bill W.) is/was the expert on all things Canadian. This what he said previously:

Chrycoman - 2016-10-09 10:04 AM
The 303 was used in the Canadian-built 1956 Dodge Custom Royal (2-bbl), 1956 Chrysler Windsor (4-bbl), and 1957 Plymouths (Plaza, Savoy, Belvedere)and Dodges (Crusader, Regent, Mayfair).
The Canadian-built 1957 Dodge Custom Royal got the 313 for 1957 and in 1958 the Canadian-built Plymouths (Plaza, Savoy, Belvedere)and Dodges (Crusader, Regent, Mayfair).
All imported models (all convertibles, Dodge Custom Sierra) had the same engines as in the USA.

The 313 was the base V8 engine for Canadian-built Plymouths and Dodges through 1964, then the poly 318 for 1965-67. Optional engines were offered in the 1960's - 361, 383, 426 and 440, depending upon the year.

Photos of the car would be appreciated (nudge nudge wink wink)

I had a question about this code plate as I know the car. The owner is 100% sure that the colour plate is XWX and that “experts” have told him in the past that the car was white, heather mist metallic, and white 2 tone.
As far as I know there was never a W colour in 1958 although the interior, firewall and trunk appear to never have been repainted like the body and it is a lilac type colour there which doesn’t really square with any of the traditional colour chips for 58 that I’ve seen.
As mentioned this is a Plodge so maybe that’s a factor.
Has anyone ever heard of a colour called heather mist metallic on a 1958 dodge?
The only reference to that colour I can seem to find on the internet is that it’s a Honda colour.
Any insights would be appreciated!

Heather Blue Metallic is a '58 DeSoto spring special color, along with Spring Rose and Persimmon Red.

'58 Dodge spring colors were:
Poppy Red, Paris Red, Frosted Turquoise

I'm not sure about Plymouth, or Canadian versions.

Heather (pinkish) was a 1956 Canadian Desoto colour so can imagine it being used on 1958 Dodges. (???)

I found the spring special paint chip chart for the 3 1958 Dodge and 1958 DeSoto colours.
This regent was definitely the DeSoto Heather blue metallic as the colour is bang on, and the paint code (W) is right as well.
Is it not unusual that a 58 Dodge was painted a DeSoto spring colour?
