Charlie: You asked that a while back and I answered with this: 56D500boy - 2025-05-15 8:14 PM .Charlie: I think that there were only two flavours of 56 Dodge driveshaft ("propeller shaft" in the parts book). 1. The one for the 6 cyl and small V8 cars that would have ball and trunions at both ends, i.e. PN 1554 919 2. The one for the larger V8 cars with overdrive manuals and/or Powerflite autos with ball and trunion at the transmission end and cross and roller at the differential end, i.e. PN 1635 126 I could be wrong. That said, I have two 56 Dodge V8 drive shafts and I have never seen a PN stamped on the shaft. It all comes down to the type of U-joints involved. No guarantees. Edited by 56D500boy 2025-06-26 1:30 PM | ||

I just dug out my "spare" 56 Dodge V8 Powerflite driveshaft. It was my car's original driveshaft. The only thing that got changed was the rear U-joint got changed from OE to Moog 315G to match the 58 Dodge pinion flange/yoke that I had installed when they changed the pinion seal. After extracting the driveshaft from its hidey hole and laying it out on the ground (garage apron), I will admit that what I just measured confused me a bit. The main point of confusion (for me) is what is the definition of driveshaft length? From where to where? I positioned the "ZERO" for my measuring tape at the center of one of the Moog 315G bearing sets for the rear cross. On that basis, the front face of the Ball and Trunion U-joint was about 61 inches away. That said, I can image that the centerline of the trunion pin through the shaft would be about the expected 59 3/16" or so from the center of the rear U-joint bearing.
