Of Tom White fame and I think still the only running EFI unit.  Found at Aluise Classic Cars in (Maryland?).  Offered for a cool 2.5 million United States dollars.

IF you hit a return at the end of the URL that you (anyone) posts, it will magically make the

Just sayin'

Thanks, Dave.  I always hit return.  For a brief time a few weeks ago, it worked.  Now I'm back to the land of non-functioning hot links.  I can't even activate them manually.  Methinks I may need a new computer to upgrade my operating system.

In addition to EFI, it has about every option on the list.  It is amazing.

Easier to list the options it does NOT have:

  • air conditioning
  • instant gas heater
  • cruise control
  • remote mirror

even if an 58 adv convertible EFI is super rare and special, the price is exaggerated

Pink is an interesting choice for the underbody paint.  It sure makes the frame details and everything below it stand out.

Thanks for the additional images.  Do you have a clearer image of the accessories/achievements?

George Mattar's article on this car, for reference:

http://www.forwardlook.net/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=19270&posts=31&highlight=electronic%20fuel%20injection&highlightmode=1#M561801

it shows where many of the numbers came from.  All that focus on originality, I know why he chose gold paint for the car - because it just looks better, but I wonder if he ever wrestled with that decision before or after it was made.

35 cars produced in 1958 with optional E.F.I. units by the Chrysler Corporation:

  • 16 Chrysler 300Ds
  • 12 Dodge Super D500s
  • 5 De Soto Adventurers
  • 2 Plymouths (Furys?)

There is rumor of 5 "prototype" 300Ds in addition to these numbers.

Wow, more than double the amount of Dodge than DeSoto. Do we know of any of these Dodges that still exist?

Yeah weird that none have surfaced.  In the forums, I have read stories about the Plymouth fuelies and there are just vapors about someone who's cousin's neighbor's grandfather saw a Dodge upside down in a salvage yard.  Never heard of another Adventurer though.  Of course, of the 16 300Ds, only about 18 are left.

Per actually drives his. Due to the lack of original pieces, combined with them being unreliable, he modernized certain aspects.

58 Vin 1 FI car will be done this year. It's a fully functioning original unit.

Per's EFI system was built with all modern components. He's a brilliant mechanic that works for Jay Leno. I've seen the car in person. He drives it all the time. Very fast.

Interesting to see that the first Adventurer convertible and the first 300D convertible were both equipped with Bendix EFI systems.  Could it be that the first Fury and ??? maybe the first Super D500 were similarly optioned?
