Dear Members,

The original trunk light in my '54 New Yorker Newport was not working when I acquired the car many years ago and was subsequently lost after it rather disintegrated when I tried to take it apart. I have a Hobbs style mercury-switch trunk light, but I cannot find anywhere to mount it near the location of the original light. It's been so long now that I cannot remember how the trunk light is mounted or what it looks like, but it did have a mercury switch. Any location near the original hot wire does not have enough angle to disconnect the mercury switch, so the light stays on all the time.

Does anyone have a photo of the 1954 trunk light assembly and location? I know mine was mounted near the trunk latch assembly, but that's about all I remember. There are no holes to guide me that that I can find either. Thanks! Rex

Most of us on here don't have any cars from 1954. But the later cars had the trunk light mounted close to the trunk latch, using only 1 screw, with the mercury switch inside the bracket containing the light. Here is a picture of one taken apart so you can see the switch.
