Member Posts: 23 | I’m in the process of reassembling the heater and firewall box on my 1959 Plymouth Belvedere. Not sure if it matters but it was originally a flathead six. In looking at pictures of other ‘59 Plymouths, I believe that the circled area is where the heater control valve goes. But, it doesn’t appear that I have a hole in the firewall in this area? Also, it doesn’t appear that I got a heater control valve in the boxes of part that came with the car, but that’s a separate problem. So, I come to ask the Forward Look experts if there is something I am not aware of. Are there other areas that the heater control valve was located? Did some cars not have heater control valves? Is it possible that a previous owner filled the hole in for some inexplicable reason? If so, I suppose I’ll have to open it back up somehow. Any light you can shed will be greatly appreciated. Your car may have been ordered without a heater, or maybe A/C cars are different? (1959SptFury Engine3.jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Member Posts: 23 | Thanks for the reply. Yes, that's exactly where the I thought it should be. I doubt very seriously this was an AC car. But it may have had a heater delete option - I'm not sure how to tell. I attached a pic of my trim tag before I sandblasted it. Is there a way to tell from any of this info if it may have had the heater deleted when it was built? I believe it was built in LA and likely spent its life in Southern California before I got ahold of it, so its not inconceivable for someone in that climate to not want a heater. Funny thing is, I have heater controls, and a heater core, that came with the car (I got it disassembled). But that could have come from another car. So who knows. In any case, its hard to see in the 2nd photo, but I took a photo under the dash where I think the hole for the heater control valve should be. Is it more of a slot than two holes? Its circled in highlighter, and looks like it had some kind of compound oozing out. If this is it, and its the only location they ever put heater control valves in 1959 Plymouths, I should be safe cutting this out, no? That is the same "Volvo" Ranco H16-style heater valve that I bought for my 56 Dodge. Works fine. I also bought a Buick oval foam heater valve grommet to fill up the mounting area, from a site similar to this site: https://www.2040-parts.com/1951-1953-buick-heat-temp-valve-grommet-o... Exner Expert 10K+ Posts: 10642 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Location: Lower Mainland BC | . As per a previous thread: 56D500boy - 2020-01-11 5:10 PM The PN for that item 41 mounting gasket is 1641 674. Searching for "1641674 heater control gasket" ( and "GASKET, Temperature Control Mounting 1641 674") did not show up anything useful. I think that you could make the gasket from some 3/16" or 1/4" thick neoprene rubber using the old gasket as a template. Or try the folks that took over Gary Goers business (?). It's not about sealing the hoses and preventing coolant leaks. It is about sealing the engine bay smells, etc. from the passenger compartment. ![]() https://americanmaterialsupply.com/collections/neoprene-rubber-sheet... Based on the cost of the neoprene foam, I doubt that you can make one as a DIY that is cheaper than the Buick one, even with shipping. But hey.....;) ![]() Edited by 56D500boy 2024-08-05 5:30 PM
