| Hi folks. I have a problem with a squeaking/chirping sound in the engine compartment. I was able to locate the noise at the generator pulley. So I replaced the bearing (brand new bearing from National 203FF). My generator only has one bearing. But the noise is still there. What else is supposed to squeak loudly on the generator? In my opinion it can only be the bearing. Any other idea? I'm now ordering another bearing, maybe the National one was faulty, defective out of the box.
What do you think - what else could be squeaking on the generator pulley? V-belt is new, I'm 100% sure it comes from the pulley.

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | If you have a dc generator, there should be oil cups in the front and the rear of the generator. Needs a couple drips of oil now and then.
If you have an alternator, there is no oil cups since the bearings are of the sealed type. |

Location: So. Cal | Check the brushes to see if they are worn out. I would expect you to have issues with electrical generation in that case, but it's possible to have heavily worn brushes that still function. |

| Hey, thanks both.....i always take care about oiling the generator, so this can not be the cause. the brushes are also brandnew. again I have installed another brand new ball bearing. Well packed! The pulley squeaks again. Now I simply applied a little oil to the front of the shaft on the pulley. Now it's quiet. But I don't understand the logic... I'm really at a loss... |

Location: Southern Sweden - Sturkö island | The pulley is pressed in on the generator shaft and needs a special puller for to remove it without damaging the pulley. Also the generator must be demounted for to be able to press the pulley back.
Hypothetically, if the pulley should be loose on the shaft, there will be rust creaping out from the center of the pulley.
Either loose pulley och the fan is loose
