The original service certificates are cool because they detail out a lot of information about the original purchase of your car and put it with the warranty info. Most of them consist of a card that the buyer or seller fills out with coupons or information about the regular service intervals expected. But I found a '60 Plymouth service certificate that has what looks like computer punch cards instead. The 4 cards are stapled together, look identical to each other, and the backside of the cards are blank. I would have assumed from this that they switched to these punchcards after 1960, but the '61 Dodge service certificate looks like the old ones without punch marks, so I am confused. Anyone know anything about these and what information is contained in those punch marks?

.
I guess the punch marks are duplicate the digits located below.
I highlighted «3107» by red for example. Same for the other digits…

I think the digits 3107132458 are the VIN number of this Plymouth:
3 = Plymouth V8
1 = Savoy
0 = 1960 Model Year
7 = St. Louis Assembly
132458 = Consecutive Unit Number

Next 38142 – no idea;

Next 313 – is a Plymouth V8 (3), Savoy (1), 4 Door Sedan (3)

Next 3310 – no idea too;

The punch marks in the blue square I highlighted might be read as: 04026024;
I guess this is a Shipping Order Number (SO NUMBER) which also stamped on the data plates.
If so, this car was scheduled on April 2, 1960 (0402) and was an 24th car (6024) built that day.

Highlighted by green are options ordered on this car:

272 = Two Tone Paint
282 = 2 Speed Automatic Transmission – Powerflite
315 = Heater and Defroster

I've seen a few of these punch cards, all for 1960, but I've never seen a full set of papers along with a car.

38142 is the dealer number

3310 correctly 03310, "0"omitted in print

Thanks for the info! It's odd that they would put the option codes on these cards, but having the dealer code makes a lot of sense.
Any idea what the P-179 stands for? They hand-wrote it on every card for some reason.

It's the Iowa State Highway Commission car issued to Ames, i.e. District 1, maybe it's the car's tactical number or something similar.
.
P (patrol car) 1 (district 1) 79 (car 79) hahahaha just kidding

Ok i did some research on my collection. Here's what I think.

The digits in the blue area are not SO NUMBER. One of card of my collection also has punch marks in this area, it's 2160435.

For 3310 - as I said in the previous post it is correct 03310 (see punch marks on the card). All cards have 5 digits in this area - the last digit is always 0.
There is one exception 11199 - it's something like special order 999.
The first four digits always fit as a date, e.g. in the card from the first post it is March 31. I have one card with other helpful documents:

March 31st or April 02 both seem to be plausible based on the delivery date of April 15th. This is the inside cover, with information that you already had guessed. The book is filled with service coupons from 3K to 23K miles with all the things that the dealer (or other garage) was supposed to check through on them. I'm not sure if not doing this would invalidate your warranty or not, but I'm sure it would have an effect if there was an issue.

That's cool Mike! I'm planning to do the same thing. For the cars that I have all the information, I'll fill in the original owner's data, but for the cars that I don't have that, I'm just going to fill in my own information. But I'll do it on reprints from the originals so I can keep them untouched. This one is definitely for '58 as verified by the litho date. I'm not sure if '59 used the same form, but this was revised in 08-'57, so that tells me that the '57 version is different.

What is the MacMillan 3 year warranty? Was that offered through the Chrysler company?

It would be great if someone with more photoshop and editing skills than me would make up a set for each of the brands in blanks that we could use to make up for our cars. I've got a little vignette of 1957 dated ephemera I leave on the seat at shows and cruise nights, and these would look cool among them.

I can do that, but the problem is that this site can't handle the file sizes to make that work. These are the best I can do with this limitation. A proper 600 dpi scan that could be reprinted without losing quality is around 5MB or larger, which is even difficult for email to deal with. But I do have a bunch of these so post a request here for what you want, and hopefully someone here can email you a scan (probably in multiple emails). I'm in the process of posting smaller images of everything that I have.

Thanks for posting those images Igor! I was wondering how far that Chrysler certificate was used. The printing looks the same from '57-'59. I purchased a reprint (without service coupons attached); and based on the litho number D-16370, it looks like it was made in 1957. Earlier Chrysler certificates surprisingly looked the same except they were printed in different colors, and probably had different service coupons attached to them.

They used them on all the vehicles, even into at least the '70's and probably further. This one is for the '55 Plymouth. Based on the printing, it looks like a one year only certificate.

The '55 Plymouth owner's service certificate had a similar design to many of the older Plymouth certificates, but they completely changed the design for the '56 Plymouths. The '57 Plymouth certificates looked very similar to the '56 Plymouth certificates, except the color was changed from turquoise to red.

For reference, this is what a '50 Plymouth service certificate looks like. '51-'55 had that wood-grain texture on them, but the earlier ones didn't.

I have a full set from a 1960 Chrysler 300F that I bought to go with my 300F since it was missing much of it. I'm looking to find a Goodyear tire warranty card that would cover the Blue Streak tires. The packet I have has an unused Captive-Air tire warranty service card set in it.

Thanks for posting those Nick! I was hoping to see what the '60 Chrysler documents look like as I haven't been able to find them. I do have a '60 DeSoto version and I was surprised that it was quite different from the '60 Plymouth. The service coupons aren't even in the same format. I guess the divisions didn't share much between them back then. It's also interesting to note the Litho numbers between the '60 Chrysler and the '60 DeSoto & Plymouth:

'60 Chrysler: 81-070-0034 certificate
'60 DeSoto: 81-170-1034 certificate
'60 DeSoto: 81-171-0032 Booklet
'60 Plymouth: 81-570-0019 Booklet
'60 Plymouth: 83420-2785 IBM Card

I would have guessed that the 0=Chrysler and 1=DeSoto, but it doesn't seem to be consistent enough.

Robert, if you have a copy of the '57-'59 Plymouth versions, it would be great to see them.

Nick, according to the punch card, your car has:

271 = Single Tone Paint
315 = Heater
332 = White Convertible Top Color
422 = Golden Tone Radio (less rear seat speaker)
441 = Solex Tinted Glass (all around)

293 = 6-Way Power Seat (plus Standard Swivel Seats; Power Steering, Brakes and Windows as well)
379 = Sure Grip Differential

Here’s what your data plate should look like. No idea about NUMBER and PAINT codes. Could you post its picture to confirm that?

Here’s what your data plate should look like. No idea about NUMBER and PAINT codes. Could you post its picture to confirm that?

It's not the documents from my 300F. My car didn't come with anything but the regular owner's manual. I got this set off of Ebay years ago.

It was a black convertible. Not known to the 300 clubs so probably gone for good.

All of these are so rare. The only ones I have ever seen are the ones with my '61 Imperial convertible which I got from the original owner.

Robert, if you have a copy of the '57-'59 Plymouth versions, it would be great to see them.

here is a blank '59 form
I only have this pic's from the net, my is not in good condition and the 1000-mile warranty section is missing

The color looks different between the two '59 certificates posted. The first was more orange, and this one is more red. But color is hard to tell from photos.

This is the service certificate for the '61 Lancer. I believe the '61 Dart service certificate looked the same, except with a green color. I believe the '61 Polara was different still, but not sure how it looked. This is hard to verify, so if anyone has clear evidence to straighten it out, that would be helpful.

My original certificate is almost identical to the one I posted. It's dark red.

I don't have the '57-'58 Dodge car service certificate, but I do have a reprint of the '57-'59? Dodge truck service certificate. I assume that the same one was used through that year range, but I don't really know. But it looks to have been printed for the '57 model year, so it's at least correct for the '57 trucks.
