Hi folks.
When removing the drive shaft (to check the condition of the ball and rollers) the gasket was damaged. Is that a simple thin rubber gasket? I want to make one myself but I don't know what material. Thanks in advance for good advice.
--> I don't want to buy a complete kit, because the ball and rollers are still in excellent original condition.

The gasket might have been thin rubber but more likely is was just a typical thin cardboard gasket material. (See typical re and re kit contents below). I would make one from a Felpro cardboard gasket material (typically blue and sold in a roll or in a package with other gasket materials) or EDPM rubber used in the roofing industry for flashings around roof vents.

Hey, thanks a lot for the infos I will buy oil and grease resistant sealing paper. I chose 0,5 mm thickness. I measured the rest of the old gasket, 0.5mm fits.

Most LAS's will have the Fel Pro sheet gasket material P/N 3046. It's .031" thick.

Okay. Hmmm....what about the "polished jute breather" ? What does the part look like? It's supposed to protect the boot from bursting. My boot has a small slit. That's why there was grease thrown out on the underbody above the boot. It says The front joint is equipped with a polished jute breather. I can't find any...!?!

The "breather" is just a short pieced of jute cord that allows air to pass in/out. It's placed between the housing and the boot and held in place by the clamp.
